Miyazaki’s major influence

I feel that this version of The Snow Queen, made in Russia in 1957, reveals a lot about where Hayao Miyazaki took much of his inspiration from. Young boy and young girl, subtle emotion, soft faces, realistic acting, strong females, hero-villain ambiguity, animalism, purity of heart, nostalgia, fantastic setting, it’s all in this movie. He has quoted The Snow Queen as the reason he didn’t give up on animation. I didn’t realize how much it had influenced him until I saw it, however.
